While there are many factors that play into the development of cancer, diet and smoking habits make up nearly 60 percent of cancer cases. The food news is that with dietary and lifestyle changes, cancer rates can drop dramatically. One of the easiest ways to protect yourself against cancer is to consume many cancer fighting foods – here are 4 of them you should never forget about.

Scientists remotely activate and deactivate genes with radio waves

Madison Ruppert, Contributor
Activist Post

Geneticists at Rockefeller University in New York have demonstrated the ability to remotely activate and deactivate specially engineered insulin production genes in mice through the use of radio waves.

As unbelievable as it sounds, this could represent a radically new understanding of how genes work as well as the ability to create an entirely new field of medical treatments.

Like many cutting edge technologies such as mind-controlled robots, new lifelike humanoid robots and microchips allowing mobile devices to see through walls and other objects, I see this breakthrough as having either radically beneficial or unimaginably detrimental uses in the future.

Cardiologist Speaks Out Against Current Cholesterol Guidelines

May 14, 2012 by

(Dr John Briffa)   Most medical professionals strongly believe that cholesterol causes heart disease and that treating ‘raised’ cholesterol and bringing it down to a so-called ‘healthy’ level is beneficial for us all. However, I’ve been skeptical about both these ideas for many years now.

I’m not the only one, though, as quite a few individuals have expressed similar doubts about the ‘cholesterol hypothesis’. Because the cholesterol hypothesis is so firmly entrenched in so many people’s minds, and because dissenters are often from the fringes of (or outside) mainstream medicine, any skepticism is relatively easy to dismiss. I think. However, when someone from within the establishment expresses doubts, the impact can be that much greater.

And that’s why I was very interested to read an open letter expressing doubt about the wisdom of current cholesterol management strategies, co-authored by Harlan Krumholz, professor of medicine and cardiologist at the Yale University School of Medicine. The letter, which appeared in the journal Circulation [1], was written to the Adult Treatment Panel – a group of ‘experts’ charged with setting cholesterol guidelines for the American public.

Kiddie Porn Is Now Legal in New York

May 14, 2012 by
(GIZMODO)   If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere, baby! The Empire State is now the home of a whole new kind of dreamer, after a judge ruled merely looking at child pornography online is no crime. What.
The case, which centered around a professor who had viewed “hundred” of child porn pics, found that he did no wrong because there was no Right Click > Save As. The mere contact of kiddie porn to eyeballs over the internet—hundreds of times over—was the same as looking at a picture of a lolcat. This seems impossibly horrible and wrong, but, technically, the ruling is sound, MSNBC reports:
“Merely viewing Web images of child pornography does not, absent other proof, constitute either possession or procurement within the meaning of our Penal Law,” Senior Judge Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick wrote for a majority of four of the six judges.
Instead, you actually need to deliberately save child porn to your hard drive, or some other explicit HELLO YES I AM CONSUMING KIDDIE PORN action, including—seriously—printing it out:

Woman pepper sprayed at close range, loses her eyesight

Monique Hernandez has been blind since the Feb. 21 incident and doctors say she’ll probably never see again.
She was undergoing a field sobriety test in her Beaumont neighborhood when there was a dispute, and Beaumont Officer Enoch Clark allegedly fired his pepper-spray gun in her face at close range. Hernandez says her deepest regret is that she can’t see her 10-year-old daughter.

fitnessbar1 Oxygen Debt | The Excess Post Exercise Oxygen Consumption EffectEveryone knows that exercise leads to a healthy body, strong muscles, reduced stress, and weight loss. But what many people don’t consider is what happens on an internal level after exercise is complete. The number of techniques or strategies which could be implemented into your workout for greater achievement is endless. Some people think that steady, long, low-intensity workouts provide the best results, but this isn’t true. Jogging is a healthy activity, and walking may even be better, but rigorous exercise has a more profound impact on an effect that occurs in your body following exercise known as excess post-exercise oxygen consumption in order to take care of what’s referred to as oxygen debt.

Mexican Federal police block the road between the cities of Monterrey and Reynosa on May 13, 2012.

Mexican officials say they have found 49 bodies dumped on a highway connecting the northern metropolis of Monterrey to the US border, as drug-related violence in Mexico escalates.

Mexican officials said on Sunday that the bodies of 43 men and 6 women, some of them mutilated, were found in plastic bags in the town of San Juan on the highway to the border city of Reynosa early in the morning, the Associated Press reported.

Following the discovery, federal and state police, joined by Mexican troops, sealed off the scene, which had blocked the highway.

The grim event echoed several other recent cases in which drug gangs had left dead bodies scattered in public places as warnings to rivals.

The 2 Billion Dollar Loss By JP Morgan Is Just A Preview Of The Coming Collapse Of The Derivatives Marke

Michael Synder
The Economic Collapse
May 12, 2012

When news broke of a 2 billion dollar trading loss by JP Morgan, much of the financial world was absolutely stunned. But the truth is that this is just the beginning. This is just a very small preview of what is going to happen when we see the collapse of the worldwide derivatives market. When most Americans think of Wall Street, they think of a bunch of stuffy bankers trading stocks and bonds. But over the past couple of decades it has evolved into much more than that. Today, Wall Street is the biggest casino in the entire world. When the “too big to fail” banks make good bets, they can make a lot of money. When they make bad bets, they can lose a lot of money, and that is exactly what just happened to JP Morgan. Their Chief Investment Office made a series of trades which turned out horribly, and it resulted in a loss of over 2 billion dollars over the past 40 days. But 2 billion dollars is small potatoes compared to the vast size of the global derivatives market. It has been estimated that the the notional value of all the derivatives in the world is somewhere between 600 trillion dollars and 1.5 quadrillion dollars. Nobody really knows the real amount, but when this derivatives bubble finally bursts there is not going to be nearly enough money on the entire planet to fix things.

The Council Doesnt Really Want Your Input

CENSORSHIP OR CONCEALMENT

When the Town Council decided to change the Council Working Rules by moving Audience Participation to the beginning of the meeting to eliminate the people from speaking on voting issues during the discussion phase of the process; it was with the understanding the council would publish under Agenda Documentation all items being discussed and voted on during the meeting.  This enabled the Public to know and understand what was being voted on and could provide input during Audience Participation.

At the last town council meeting, this was not the case.  There were no Agenda Documentations pertaining to neither Brooks’ presentation nor the two issues Brooks asked the council to vote on.  These issues were:

VOTE (2012-48B) Councilor Bowie, seconded by Councilor Ward move to support the Lisbon Consolidation plan consuming the County dispatch.  Order passed – Vote 6-0.

VOTE (2012-48B) Councilor Bowie, seconded by Councilor Ward move that if the County proposal failed, then Lisbon will keep Lisbon’s dispatch and not go with the LA 911 plan.  Order passed – Vote 5-1 (Opposed: Mason)

Both of these items are critical to the citizens of Lisbon and the Public should have been given the opportunity to provide input.  This Lisbon Communication Center issue involved the lives of everyone living in Lisbon.  As you can see by who made the motion and who seconded the motion;  who puts loyalty and logistics before human life.

The council should always allow the citizens of Lisbon the opportunity to speak on all issues prior to voting on them.  If, as is this case, the Public had no prior notification of what was being considered the vote should have been tabled until the people had an opportunity to provide input to the council before they voted on the issues.  There was no emergency!

Apparently, the town council did not want the Public to know what was going on because there is no video tape due to technical difficulties while the camera was being operated by a veteran operator.

Brooks way or the Highway

HIS WAY OR THE HIGHWAY

On May 1, 2012 David T. Brooks presented his own feelings about the future of the Lisbon Communications Center.  The entire presentation dealt with what Brooks wanted the councilors to know.  But there were several simple facts which came out of this discussion.

Brooks has been working on this proposal for eight years.  In this eight year period, has Brooks given any thought to what would happen if the Lisbon Communication Center were to be shut down.  Instead of considering all aspects of the situation and coming up with a contingency plan for each scenario; he chooses to ignore the possibility of anyone not approving his proposal.  This was very apparent by Brooks continual repeating there is “NO PLAN”.  There is no plan because Brooks never considered anything else.  It is the Chief of Police’s responsibility to provide a contingency plan for each phase of his operation not the County Commissioners.

The most simplistic action of all communications was not addresses by Brooks.  The utilization of cell phones to communicate between Lisbon Departments was never considered by Brooks.Utilizing “thumb drives” to update IMC, prepare logs or record data was never considered. Utilizing Duty Officer and Sergeants to check IMC, NCIC and checks and interstate inquiries were never considered. The first responder on the scene could assess the situation and utilizing a preloaded cell phone call for any additional assistance. The bus driver who is busing our children to away events could utilize a cell phone to communication any situation as necessary.

I commend Councilor Gina Mason for seeing right though Brooks presentation.  Councilor Mason asked how come the town could not utilize cell phones as a means of communications since we already are paying for them.  Councilor Mason asked Chief Brooks numerous questions he was not prepared to answer.  Councilor Mason had the courage to ask why he has not looked at alternative solutions.

It would appear it is Brooks’s way or the highway because Brooks has no contingency plans in place for any of the different aspects of the Police Department.  So for the past eight years, he is only concerned with what is best for Brooks and not this community.   The dispatch situation affects all of the citizens of Lisbon because it deals with the response time in an emergency.  In an emergency every seconds count in determining life or death.  The country has instituted a program called 911 in order to expedite the process in hope of saving lives.  Our County Commissioners are trying to do the same by consolidating all the communications centers and eliminating redundancy within the process.  A 911 emergency phone call go to either Lewiston/Auburn 911 if received by land line or to the Maine State Police Barracks in Gray if received by cell phone.  These calls are then relayed to the Lisbon Communication Center to dispatch Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).  No 911 calls come DIRECTLY to the Lisbon Communication Center.  Let me repeat that:  No 911 calls come DIRECTLY to the Lisbon Communication Center.

The County Commissioners are trying to improve this processing by eliminating the middle step.  By dispatching Police, Fire and EMS from the point the call is received will eliminate having to call the Lisbon Communication Center and speed up the response time.  In an emergency, time is critical and every minute/second can make the difference between life or death.  Streamlining the process and saving lives should be the number one priority of everyone.

Why would you NOT want to speed up the process in an attempt to save as many lives as possible?

Why is the New York Times enabling a U.S. government smear campaign against reporters exposing the drone wars?

By John Hanrahan

May 11, 2012

The Times let government officials anonymously attack a group of journalists and a lawyer who have uncovered evidence that belies the White House's claim that drones aren't killing many civilians. Was their rationale for that justified?

A human rights lawyer and a group of investigative journalists who have exposed the extensive civilian casualties from CIA drone strikes in Pakistan are being smeared by anonymous U.S. government officials, who have even accused them of being sympathetic to al Qaeda.

Two of the anonymous accusations came in articles in The New York Times, despite the paper's own rules against personal attacks by unnamed sources.

THE TRUE FACTS ABOUT FEMA CAMPS

Common Sense

Recently the Lisbon Council Meeting of May 1st. was posted to the Town Web Site.

After perusing the rather lengthy dialog, mostly of excuses why we must maintain A costly dispatch center in Lisbon, I saw a flicker of common sense.
Councilor Mason’s remarks  about using cell phones is a good idea. She seems to be the only Councilor that has actually given this problem some thought.

The argument that Lisbon needs to keep its Dispatch Center for other towns, that want to use our service, is just plain ridiculous.  Lisbon needs to look out for Lisbon first. The other small towns in the area see the foolishness of having their own Dispatch. They know that if they can have another town do the physical dispatching they will save money.

I am glad to see that at least one Councilor has given some thought to the problem.

Lawless Lisbon?

Is the rule of law dead in Lisbon? Has Lisbon become a dictatorship?

Tuesdays public meeting is just the last example in a long line of charter and statute violations made by  Lisbon’s Governing Council.

According to the Lisbon Charter, public hearings are supposed to be published in the paper at least 2 weeks prior to a meeting. Tuesdays breech of this requirement was brought up at the start of  the recent public meeting by Mr. Filmore. Chairman Laroschelle’s response to this “point of order” was -- he didn’t care  about the charter notification requirement he was going to hold the  meeting regardless of its legality.  In so many words he told Mr Filmore to shut up and sit down.

Lisbon doesn’t need  leaders with this level of arrogance.

Lisbon is required by Charter to keep 12.5% of its budget in an un designated fund for emergency use. This requirement according to the available numbers is also breached.  A second violation of our own Charter.

There are valid reasons for this charter requirement.

There are many examples of Lisbon"s Officials turning a blind eye to the  traffic, safety and weight restriction offenses in Houston Park. Residents have called  the Police may times without any solution. Is it a coincidence that the name of one of our Councilors keeps coming up in connection with this problem.

Our Laws should be enforced evenly without regard for a person’s social or political standing.

Its rather ironic that we pay more for our law enforcement than almost any municipality our size in this state.

At several of the last Council Meetings the Councilors have admitted that the proposed new (spot) zoning regulations were initiated in order to fix the problem of illegal businesses in town.  For years businesses of the favored few have been allowed to flourish in town while others have gotten official letters threatening them if they didn’t shut down their enterprises. I know of at least one Councilor that operates a business in a restricted residential district.

This illegal activity has risen to a level that the normal safety valves are ineffective in curtailing the corruption. We are at a point where we need outside intervention.  We need the Governor or some other outside governing body “with the power” to come in and perform a forensic audit to fix what we seem unable to repair.

I hope our pleas don’t fall on deaf ears.

Fort Lee, N.J. Cracking Down On ‘Dangerous Walking’ By Handing Out Summonses

(CBS New York)   Forget dangerous driving, pedestrians are the new threat to street safety — phone calls, texting, music and wandering into traffic. Now, one New Jersey town is cracking down on the practice.

Fort Lee’s police chief has seen his share of careless pedestrians texting or talking on the phone in his own town. He said he has counted 23 pedestrian accidents since January, ranging from minor bumps and bruises to three fatalities.

After trying pamphlets and brochures, he’s ordering his officers to ticket careless pedestrians on the spot.

“They’re not alert and they’re not watching what they’re doing,” Police Chief Thomas Ripoli told CBS 2′s Derricke Dennis. “As of now, they are to give summonses to pedestrians who do not adhere to crosswalks and the lights.”

The Netherlands has become the first EU member country to pass into law new net neutrality regulations, following in the footsteps of Chile, which became the first country in the world to make net neutrality laws back in July 2010. The new Telecom Law was approved unanimously by the Dutch Senate and is set to ensure that access to the internet remains neutral and unfiltered.

The move follows plans announced last year by Dutch telecoms provider KPN to increase mobile broadband prices and make allowance changes in the wake of increased data consumption for certain services over 3G, such as Skype and Whatsapp. KPN noted that the increased usage of these apps was reducing their average revenue per user and hurting profits.

Whistleblowers Reveal Major Pentagon Secret of Deadly Toxin Added to Jet Fuel

May 9, 2012 by
Filed under Featured Stories, US News
(WAYNE MADSEN)   Virginia Air National Guard F-22 Raptor pilots Major Jeremy Gordon and Captain Josh Wilson were on CBS’s 60 Minutes tonight. While there were no major revelations, the two aviators added detail to what was already known.

The two working theories as to the root cause of the Raptor’s oxygen system maladies are still a toss-up between either some sort of toxin or some sort of oxygen flow/quality problem–as I have reported since the beginning of this mess. Though I will say some of the symptoms as described remind me of decompression sickness, but that’s purely my own observation.

Of particular interest is the fact that the charcoal filters–which were added after last year’s F-22 grounding was lifted–were breaking up and ending up in the pilots’ air flow. This was causing some of the pilots to cough up some nasty black stuff…

The USAF has removed those filters and is apparently looking for a replacement. When that might happen is anyone’s guess…

This problem was predicted by a good source of mine when the US Air Force started to consider lifting the flight ban last September. The charcoal filters were tested at Edwards AFB in California, but without G loads on the test card–so I was told. The source had predicted correctly that the filters would break-up and cause further problems (such as face full of carbon)–as has proven to be the case.

Jennifer Mahoney, 33, of Manalapan, New Jersey, pleaded guilty in US District Court Wednesday to the sexual exploitation of a child that took place on at least two separate occasions in her home.

'She cannot believe what’s happening to her. She’s upset with herself,' Mahoney's defense lawyer, Herbert Ellis, said of his client to NJ.com after her court hearing that presented her in a red prison jumpsuit and chain around her waist.

'She's numb,' he said of the woman whose teeth were described as chattering and who wiped tears from her face.

She faces between 15 and 30 years in prison when she is sentenced Aug. 22, and will have to pay restitution to the victim. She had been charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a child.

As part of the plea, Mahoney agreed 30 years is the appropriate sentence, although the judge will have the final say. She would be under supervised release for anywhere between five years and life after her sentence is completed. She also agreed not to appeal.

Baby, 18 months old, ordered off plane at Fort Lauderdale airport

Eighteen-month-old Riyanna has been called a lot of things: cute, adorable and now ... a suspected terrorist.

She was called that on Tuesday night at the Ft Lauderdale Airport. She and her parents had just boarded a JetBlue flight when an airline employee approached them and asked them to get off the plane, saying representatives from the Transportation Security Administration wanted to speak to them.

"And I said, 'For what?'" Riyanna's mother told only WPBF 25 News on Wednesday. "And he said, 'Well, it's not you or your husband. Your daughter was flagged as no fly.' I said, 'Excuse me?'"

Riyanna's father was flabbergasted.

"It's absurd," he said. "It made no sense. Why would an 18-month-old child be on a no-fly list?"

MUG SHOTS: Who Got Arrested In South Florida?

Riyanna's parents, who asked not to be identified, said they think they know the answer to that question. They believe they were profiled because they are both of Middle Eastern descent. Riyanna's mother wears a hijab, a traditional head scarf. That's why they have asked to remain anonymous. They said they're concerned about repurcussions. That said, they are both Americans, born and raised in New Jersey, just like their daughter.

2 years after the Michigan oil spill, that occurred during the infamous BP Gulf Oil spill, the cover up continues as BP, Enbridge and the EPA continue to lie about oil submerged beneath the water’s surface.
Last year, one year after the Michigan spill, I received an SOS from local residents.

One Year Later EPA Has Done Little To Make BP Clean Up Embridge Michigan Oil Spill

BP Enbridge Oil Spill victims say that almost a year later the EPA has done little to force BP to clean up the 800,000 gallons of oil they spilled into Michigan waters. They are asking for your help to spread awareness to create enough public pressure to force the EPA to act.

FDA Seeks Prescription Drug Vending Machine

Would you purchase prescription drugs from a vending machine?
Thanks to a new move by the FDA to allow the public to diagnose themselves with conditions and purchase the appropriate pharmaceuticals from a vending machine, it may become a reality.
By simply visiting a ‘drug kiosk’ in a mall or drug store, you may soon be able to buy drugs that treat health conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, and migraines.

Furthermore, it would be as simple as answering an online questionnaire at this kiosk to obtain drugs that currently require prescriptions.

America For Sale: Chinese Group Plans To Construct A 200-Acre 'China City' In Michigan

Michael Snyder, Contributor
Activist Post

A Chinese group known as "Sino-Michigan Properties LLC" has bought up 200 acres of land near the town of Milan, Michigan. Their plan is to construct a "China City" with artificial lakes, a Chinese cultural center and hundreds of housing units for Chinese citizens. Essentially, it would be a little slice of communist China dropped right into the heartland of America.
This "China City" would be located about 40 minutes from both Detroit and Toledo, and it would be marketed to Chinese business people that want to start businesses in the United States. Unfortunately, this is not just an isolated purchase.

CISPA vs. The Pirate Bay: who will win the future of information sharing?

Noah Bonn, Contributor
Activist Post

In case you haven't looked up from your cave in a while, the biggest, messiest clash of titans so far in 2012 is currently being fought on the world stage. I'm referring to the battle between bills like CISPA and file sharing sites like The Pirate Bay.
Some of the players in this epic include: Internet moguls, governments around the world, media empires, military intelligence, and the ever-ominous power of the people.
The question to be answered is simple: Can Internet users freely share files on the Internet? How you respond to it will decidedly affect the future of not just music, but every industry in the world.

Lisbon's Budget Issues

SERIOUS BUDGET ISSUES

At last night’s Public Hearing the people of Lisbon were notified the proposed budget will raise taxes approximately 2 mil rate.  This equates to approximately $200.00 per $100,000 valuation.  This is only the proposed budget as it stands as of May 8th, 2012.  The town and school are still working to improve their budgets.  It is amazing how easily our town council can be manipulated by the town manager and Brooks.

Several months ago, I asked a County Commissioner what services Lisbon receives for the $574,197.52 taxpayers pay in County Tax.  The following is a listing of services provided:

Register of Deeds
Register of Probate
Emergency Management
District Attorney
County Corrections
Court house building operations
911 Call answering

All other towns but Lewiston, Auburn, Poland and Lisbon also receive dispatching services.  Lewiston-Auburn owns a 911 center that dispatches Lewiston and Auburn fire and police departments as well as Poland’s fire and rescue department.

Lisbon taxpayers are paying approximately $500,000 of addition tax dollars to operate the Lisbon Communications Center.  The town could save $500,000 tax dollars by taking advantage of the County services being provided already.  Brooks duped his brought town council into keeping the Lisbon Communications center operational instead of saving the tax payers approximately half million dollars.
In other words, we are paying for services we are not receiving; why is that?

By utilizing County services, which we are already paying for, Lisbon could reduce its operational cost and eliminate the need to raise taxes this year.  It is baffling why the taxpayers of Lisbon are forced to pay twice for the same service when it could be provided by the County and paid only once.  Right now Lisbon Communication Center is not even a 911 Call Answering Center; Lewiston/Auburn is the 911 Call Answering Center for Androscoggin County.  As it stands right now, Lewiston/Auburn 911 calls the Lisbon Communications Center to dispatch Police, Fire and Rescue in a 911 situation.  So again, the question remains why we are spending approximately $500,000 dollars of taxpayers’ funds to operate a communication center when it is part of the services offered by the County and incorporated in our County Tax.

Public Hearing on the Municipal and School Budgets

CORRUPTION CONTINUES IN LISBON

Last night the town council held a Public Hearing on the municipal and school budgets. This meeting was first announced on April 30th in the Sun Journal and was never announced in the Brunswick Times Record according to the respective papers. This is a direct violation of our town Charter, Section 6.04 – Council Action on Budget, (a) Notice and Hearing, 2 The time and place (not less than two weeks after the first such publication) of a public hearing on the proposed budgets.

Since the first announcement, only 9 days had past. When this information was presented to the council Chairman Larochelle, he ignored it and moved on with the public hearing. Apparently, this council has absolutely no interest in complying with OUR Town Charter. The citizens’ desires are meaningless to this council.

It is the town manager’s responsibility to ensure the provisions of OUR town Charter are upheld. This is another violation of the town charter by the town manager. How long do the people of Lisbon have to put up with his incompetentness? Councilor Mason states she was disappointed there were not more people there but when you announce the public hearing in one newspaper and then NOT allow the 14 days to pass prior to the meeting; What would you expect?
There was not sufficient time for the message to get out to all the citizens. However, this is just another prime example of Eldridge not following OUR Charter and the town council being manipulated. They say, "ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise"!!!

One of the more important questions asked was if the people were going to have an opportunity to vote on this year’s budget and the answer was “NO”. Chairman Larochelle stated this has to be changed in several parts of our Charter. Supposedly, it is in the hands of the town lawyer whose objective is to water this proposal down so the people of Lisbon will not have the opportunity to vote “by department” on the municipal budget. Remember last November when over 2,000 citizens of Lisbon stated they wanted to vote on the municipal budget by departments. Brooks cannot stand to allow this to happen because his budget is the most expensive.
At the last Town Council meeting, I pointed out to the town council I was not receiving correct information from the management of the town. I had asked for the general fund balance to determine if the town has the correct amount in the Undesignated Fund (emergency fund) which is mandated by our Charter. The town is required to maintain 12.5% of the total municipal and school general fund. I continued to receive different numbers every time I asked.
So I asked the State of Maine Tax Division for the correct number and guess what; the town is SHORT approximately $7,271.50 in this account. Again, this is a violation of OUR town Charter. When Eldridge took over as the town manager there was over 3 million ($3,000,000) dollars in this account. Where has our tax dollars gone? We need a forensic audit.

How many more of OUR Town's Charters are we going to allow Eldridge to VIOLATE?
When is the town council going to get the message Eldridge’s word cannot be trusted?
I cannot believe how easy it is to manipulate this council.
Vote three of them out in November and let’s try and get some individuals who are not as easy to manipulate!!!!!!!!!!

How unpopular can Obama get? Texas INMATE gets 40 per cent of votes against President in West Virginia primary

  • Prisoner Keith Judd got 40% of vote in West Virginia to Obama's 60%
  • Inmate 11593-051 got on ballot by paying $2,500 fee and filing forms
  • Attracting 15% of vote normally qualifies candidate for a delegate to the Democratic National Convention
By Louise Boyle

Just how unpopular is President Obama in some parts of the country? Enough that a man in a Texas prison received four out of 10 votes in West Virginia's Democratic presidential primary.
Inmate Keith Judd, 53, is serving 17 years for extortion at the Beaumont Federal Correctional Institution. He was sentenced in 1999 for making threats against the University of New Mexico and is due to be released on June 24 next year.
With 93 per cent of precincts reporting, Obama was receiving just under 60 per cent of the vote to Judd's 40 per cent.

Republicans Are Finally Getting Nervous About Ron Paul’s Secret Delegate Strategy

Grace Wyler
Business Insider
Wednesday, May 9, 2012
For several weeks I have been writing about Ron Paul’s upset victories at district and state GOP conventions, and about the surprising success of his delegate strategy. Now, with Paul’s delegate sweeps in Maine and Nevada, it looks like Mitt Romney and the Republican Party are finally starting to catch on to the trend.

Paul supporters swept this weekend’s state GOP conventions, picking up 21 of 24 RNC delegates in Maine and 22 out of 28 delegates in Nevada. The twin victories come on the heels of Paul’s surprise delegate wins at district caucuses and state conventions in Missouri, Minnesota, Colorado, and Louisiana, as well as a Paul-friendly takeover of the Alaska GOP.

Paul supporters have managed to stage these state-level coups despite significant resistance from local Establishment Republicans, many of whom are predictably reluctant to relinquish their power to the insurgents. So far, however, the Paul campaign has attributed most of the Establishment’s “shenanigans” to local animosities.

But there is growing evidence that the Romney camp — and the national GOP — are stepping up their efforts to prevent an embarrassing Ron Paul uprising on the floor of the Republican National Convention.

In Maine, for example, the Romney campaign dispatched its top lawyer, Benjamin Ginsberg, to oversee the state convention proceedings this weekend. (It’s worth noting that Ginsberg is best known for his work for George W. Bush during the 2000 Florida recount.)

Congressional Democrats Introduce Amendment to Outlaw Self Defense

The Congressional Progressive Caucus has announced it will introduce legislation designed to strip Americans of the right to defend themselves. Called “Stop Shoot First Laws,” the amendment to the Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill under consideration in the House would deny states federal funding allocated under section 505 of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 if they continue to allow citizens to defend themselves.

Lisbon Maine Budget Idea #1

             Joe Hill's Budget Ideas
Current Mil Rates of Surrounding Municipalities
                  (Adjusted to 100% valuation)

Leeds -------- $12.30       @ 100%
Greene ------- $13.28       @100%
Durham ------$13.10        @100%
Sabattus------$14.00        @100%

Topsham------$16.50       @100%
Brunswick----$17.02       @100%
Lisbon--------$17.43       @100%
Auburn  ------$19.39       @100%
Lewiston -----$20.63      @100%

Why are Lisbon Taxpayers paying more in taxes than Brunswick, A town more than twice our size.   We are close to the tax rates of Auburn and Lewiston, Towns  three and four times our size.

Its time to  finally recognize the 500 lb. gorilla in Lisbon and  slash its bloated budget before it costs  more Lisbon residents their homes.  Forcing the elderly and low income residents of Lisbon to pay for 26 Police employees many making $40 - $45,000 dollars a year is morally offensive and despicable.

Are we not our brothers keeper.

Are you interested in beating cancer with nutrition? Mainstream medical practices for cancer treatment have been shown to be both dangerous and ineffective, lending further merit to the phrase “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. While medical professionals are being educated in the field of medicinal treatment revolving around pharmaceuticals, many foods are repeatedly being recognized as powerful cancer-fighters and overall health-enhancers. Who would have thought that nutrition and eating habits could help to maintain your health?

FDA Allows Corporations to ‘Recondition’ Old Food

Susanne Posel, Contributor

In order to save money, some corporations will repackage older food into new packaging and resell it. One public school lunch supplier tried this with moldy apple sauce re-canned and was reprimanded to never try that “stunt” again.

The FDA was contacted by Snokist Growers of Yakima, Washington. This is just one group trying to ensure “reworking” food is not a normal practice.

A story missing from our media: Iceland's on-going revolution

by Deena Stryker
An Italian radio program's story about Iceland’s on-going revolution is a stunning example of how little our media tells us about the rest of the world.  We may remember that at the start of the 2008 financial crisis, Iceland literally went bankrupt.  The reasons were mentioned only in passing, and since then, this little-known member of the European Union fell back into oblivion.

As one European country after another fails or risks failing, imperiling the Euro, with repercussions for the entire world, the last thing the powers that be want is for Iceland to become an example.  Here's why:

Five years of a pure neo-liberal regime had made Iceland, (population 320 thousand, no army), one of the richest countries in the world. In 2003 all the country’s banks were privatised, and in an effort to attract foreign investors, they offered on-line banking whose minimal costs allowed them to offer relatively high rates of return.  The accounts, called IceSave, attracted many UK and Dutch small investors.  But as investments grew, so did the banks’ foreign debt.  In 2003 Iceland’s debt was equal to 200 times its GNP, but in 2007, it was 900 percent.  The 2008 world financial crisis was the coup de grace. The three main Icelandic banks, Landbanki, Kapthing and Glitnir, went belly up and were nationalised, while the Kroner lost 85% of its value with respect to the Euro.  At the end of the year Iceland declared bankruptcy.

Contrary to what could be expected, the crisis resulted in Icelanders recovering their sovereign rights, through a process of direct participatory democracy that eventually led to a new Constitution.  But only after much pain.
